Phun Elite was founded on March 22, 2009, by ioncann0ns. The group was founded for creating a collab that was more successful than most, simply due to it being more like a team. ioncann0ns managed to recruit two member the day of the founding: Skillkills and JaXNash. The three were able to put together a single scene that was uploaded March 25, 2009. The team had hoped that the scene's quality would attract new members... it didn't. Due to the name "Phun ELITE" the Phun community considered the team as having the opinion of being superior to the community. Contrary to that idea, it was simply a name.

The team managed to recruit one member past that point, "Combot" who suggested a new name, "P-1337". The three original members were a bit skeptical, due to "1337" still meaning "Elite" in noobspeak. The community however, reacted in a much different way to the new name.

P-1337 after the name change had a surge of members, eventually hitting a maximum of 10, at which point ioncann0ns stopped allowing applications. The team discussed various ideas for a second project, but the team fell into disarray. Members became annoyed with one-another eventually leading to the breakdown and purge of P-1337. P-1337 was cleared of all members besides the three founding members, and went into a 4 month dormancy state.

Mid to late July 2009, ioncann0ns started a new system within P-1337, a type of experiment with the P-1337 recruitment. He opened the P-1337 forums ([1]) and began a massive wave of recruitment. No one was turned down. The recruitment eventually maxed out at 27 members, with many inactive. He gradually cut members based on activity and project assistance until only 8 members remained. From then on, P-1337 is still creating their history.
