difference between build and play modes

I'd like to have a bigger distinction between building and playing/looking at a phun scene.

For example, the building mode could have options like lighting up hinges when they're active, showing what objects belong to a certain group, and complicated displaying of forces and other parts of the simulation.
But the play mode could be cleaner, for example like how it is now. It wouldn't give you all the details you need to build scenes, but only those you need to show how the simulation is going. You would still be able to build scenes in it, only it will be less advanced

Maybe we should even have a menu option to switch between advanced (build mode), standard (play mode), and kiosk mode (completely clean and only for exhibitions and such).

You've got yourself into quite the situation here. You don't want to be snotty and put this in suggestions best, but nobody can do it for you. It's like your voting for something you have dictation over. That just made me lol. More to the point, I think it is a good idea.

Re: difference between build and play modes

Would "lock group" work, so that a group has to be unlocked to be edited by the tools, but so that the simulation still updates it?
Likewise, one could think of a freeze mode, on object and groups, so that they are frozen in the simulation, but still can be edited with the tools. This could be useful when developing a scene, and you only want to simulate the particular portion of the scene you're working on, while the rest is fixed.

Re: difference between build and play modes

No, that's not what I mean.

I mean that you have different modes for running phun, ranging from simple to complex.

PLAIN SNOTTY! I kid. big_smile. Sounds like a good idea to me, even though I won't  be much influenced by this change. Move-it on over wink.

*sigh* If only you could have more common sense.

Build and play modes looks to me like a great idea. Although the idea is a bit old, I say it should be implemented. With the current version of Phun, we sort of have a little bit of the idea of the build and play modes. Now, we have a setting that can allow us to only view objects in a certain collision group, therefore, making it easier to build. I guess this suggestion has sort of gotten into Phun.

Re: difference between build and play modes

I dont really understant what this means. Because when I want this to happen, I just press the Hide Menu button and I have a very little thing on top of the screen that is not bothering at all.

Re: difference between build and play modes

Basically, the build mode shows all the forces, hinges, fixates, and other parts that are important in building your machine. The play mode is more focused on you simulating/playing with the scene.

Re: difference between build and play modes

This sounds like a request for more/different Phun modes. Like the ones we already have (Simple, Medium, Advanced), only a little changed. I like it!

I also like Ken's idea of locking and freezing groups. That would be quite helpful!

Re: difference between build and play modes

As more and more games are made in Phun, I think it needs a kind of read-only mode.
I like Ken's idea too, lockable groups would be awesome.
When you've finnished one part of the scene, you can lock it while working on the next, so you can't mess up your scene by accident.

Re: difference between build and play modes

i think would be great because of the games realesed by now
and some of them using the mouse button to fire or do other stuff but theres no tool for such using so ur making a box or putting hinge and stuff

and when u press a button u select a tool thats realy annoying i think
my suggestion to this is to have a "game" mode where u only have 3 tools the hand tool, move camera tool and free click tool

in the free click mode u can use left and right click for scripting and the camera movment is restricted to the middle mouse button
and the space bar should also be free to use

and the creator can save the mode in the scene so the viewer just have to press play and the scene is like it should be
