Phun Rally championship

Welcome to the Phun Rally championship or PRC for short. To enter you must build your car to fit the requirements and enter it on the test scene provided. There are then 3 stages which the top Xnumber* of competitors from the test scene are entered into.

(*I can't decide yet)

Each of these stages are a test of different skills, the stages are a follows;
Desert - Testing high speed jumps and steep angles.
Mountain - Climbing and suspension is tested to the max.
Forest - Technical skill is needed and combines all attributes required to win.

Between each stage you are allowed to tweak your car, But only motor and spring settings, no adding/subtracting parts, no moving anything, no changing physical attributes.

Rules;

Motor settings;
    Wheel and object that is attached (including any other object fixted/glued to that one) to it with hinge must have a combined mass of 50 (+5 kg)  (for realism)
                            Motor speed * Motor torque = 175 * Total mass           eg, motor speed = 350, motor torque = 500 , Total mass = 1000,
                            so 350 * 500 = 1000 * 175
(Total mass doesn't include the wheels and attached object.)

General
No editing the scene
No scripting
No directional controllers
Every thing must collide in at least one collison group
Slider values only except spring, density and motor settings
Min weight = 1000kg or 1 ton
Max weight = 1700kg or 1.7 ton
Max number of peices = 300 (including hinges fixates etc.)
Only two wheels allowed
Only two powered hinges allowed.
No Rockets, this is a car contest
No other means of propusion.
No soft wheels, wheels can be one object only no heaping wheels ontop of one another.

Dimensions;
Min lenght = 3m
Max lenght = 4.5m
Min height = 1.5m
Max heigth = 2m

Re: Phun Rally championship

I made mine but the mass and motors are wrong I'm kind of confused and need a calculator but one question about the weight 1-1.7tons, do you mean that in mass or density?

Re: Phun Rally championship

Too many technical cheats fits with riles. You need to specify more details.
For example:
Collision groups and rules to prevent "hidden" mass
Motors count.
No initial speed
No other boosters
etc

Re: Phun Rally championship

What about alternate engines?  I could build a really easy negative-damping engine and tear across the desert with unheard-of speed, or I could build a collision-changing engine with tons of power.  Will you allow them to encourage innovation, or would constructing an uber-engine to blow over the course not be in the spirit of the competition?

I'm going to just assume that you won't let us use that one motor to make a flight-capable density propeller...

EDIT: also, are you aware of how tough your motor settings are?  Have you built a car to those specifications?  It's pretty wimpy.  I can probably do it, but making it simply get over a hill is a challenge on its own.

EDIT 2:  Found a work-around involving hinge strength calculations.  Now I can get over the hill within specs and finish in nine seconds, will continue modifying and improving.

No, gearing FTL.  Gears have serious limitations on how much power they can transfer and how fast they can go.  I don't use them and probably never will until Phun's collisions get better  That would need either some very complicated math or much higher hertz in the simulation, neither of which appears to be close on its way.

Oh yeah, and I'm down to eight under seven seconds on my prototype, but now it has external non-colliding parts.  Are they allowed?

And are these motor settings per wheel, or do we only get one motor?

if you set the Hz to 600 gears work perfectly
(i would enter if it was allowed)

Re: Phun Rally championship

I am developing an entry using my progressive spring technology, which - isn't all that impressive lol.

getting above 9 seconds, but in fairness, i dont expect my vechile to win anyway - its the taking part for my team!

Can we post and update our entry up till the finish date or should i hold off till I've done all i can with it?

When I can't get around using gears, high-friction circles are the way I go.  They sometimes try to explode due to the new hinge solver in version 5, but otherwise work very nicely at any speed.

Re: Phun Rally championship

"Wheel and object that is attached to it with hinge must have a combined mass of 50 (+2 kg)  (for realism)"

Does that include the entire wheel apparatus (suspension included), or just the wheel and the immediate object it's attached to?

For that matter, does it include any objects those objects might be fixated to?  Motor strength is determined by the whole fixated groups, not individual pieces.

Re: Phun Rally championship

Okay, lots of stuff to deal with.
Firsty, Only two motorised hinges allowed, no alternate engines, no rockets, ro flying or any other form of propulsion.
Second, Everything must collide
Thirdly, Frank and thewonkits, yes it includes the wheel and the object it is attached to, the object it is attached to inclueds anything that is fixated or glued to thet object.
Fourthy(?), No gears or anything, just plan old motors.

Half of this stuff is so obvious i don't get why you can't determine it yourselfs.

Edit; Frank, thewonkits etc. are you entering, i'm guessing yes? No?

Adjustable front end geometry too, adjust the spring length under it.

wanted to make something a bit different!

EDIT : I've updated my entry now to have just the two motors instead of the three it had before - i admit it was a sneaky loophole (made before the post above it lol) but i couldnt figure out how to get it to go up any other way, now I've got it sorted.
