Re: New Algodoo video at YouTube!

Phun is not at all a good name for an educational product (or any product) because of the problems with the corresponding websites at .com and .org. It is also very difficult to protect Phun as a trademark since it is not at all unique. Algodoo, on the other hand, is almost entirely unique.

We see comments from a very small number of individuals in the community who are very upset about the fact that we also release a product (and some bark at us for ripping off Phun into Algodoo- this is a rather confused view..). In the last few weeks I got a handful of rather rude emails from Phun users who say we are idiots for also developing a product.  I have stated many times that we really like and appreciate the phun community, but finding these kinds of comments in my mailbox after having spent another 12h day of hard work is actually rather demotivating. On the other hand, 99% of the response is very, very positive and encouraging!

Btw, did anyone stumble upon the article about Algoryx and Algodoo at Techworld (swedish only, but you can at least look at the pictures..)? http://www.idg.se/2.1085/1.207124/har-a … klektionen

Those emails are probably from people too young or ignorant to understand the differences and similarities between Algodoo and Phun.  They also don't see that Algoryx hasn't taken Phun from Emil, but has given Emil and Phun a home so that he doesn't have to do it all by himself.
The last thing you should do is beat yourself up over it.  I guarantee that anyone who dislikes Algoryx or Algodoo would love them both if they only understood that they aren't harmful to Phun in any way.

You see, Phun.com is an inappropriate site for kids altogether, as I assume that Algodoo will most likely be directed to people under 18.

You guys really have to stop flaming Algoryx. They've worked hard to provide you such great freeware. You guys should be thanking them, not critisizing them. You should be glad that Phun is free.

Re: New Algodoo video at YouTube!

Let me see if I'm correct.

So Phun IS Algodoo? If I'm correct, I can see why.
Phun has problems with the other site so, therefore, Algoryx changed the name to avoid those problems.

I hope I'm not just making things up again (kinda like the 23 enigma).

Re: New Algodoo video at YouTube!

I have an idea, ken.  The .com/.org issue can be fixed by calling Phun Algodoodle Lite or something similar, to differentiate from the other sites.  As long as Phun and Algodoo have different names to avoid confusion, it might work out.

So far as the bad emails, it's probably the more immature members who came out to rag on Algodoo.  You have full support from the majority of the community, no matter what happens.

They are mostly talking about using algodoo on phisics lessons. However, they also said a few things about future of phun and algodoo. They said that they have plans about phun. Also, they said that algodoo will be finished in april.

I do not know swedish, but there is a page-translation service at google. The folowing link is to the translated page:

Re: New Algodoo video at YouTube!

So...  I read the article.  Is Phun now Algodoo in name?  The article may have confused me, due to inaccuracies in translation, but it said Algodoo was released for OSX, Windows and Linux last spring.

Re: New Algodoo video at YouTube!

Yes, it did say that Arin, I noticed it too. But I think it says this spring not last spring.

I noticed another thing. In the Phun homepage, if you go to the Swedish translation and translate it to English, it says:

The units Algodoo and is to begin with available for Intel classname mate PC, but will soon also to other platforms.

Now with some grammar corrections:

Algodoo will first be available for Intel Classmate PC, but will also be released to other platforms soon.

Hmmmm... I wonder if that means that we are going to have to pay for it afterall? Or will there be two different releases with blocked functions kinds like a demo.
